We’re looking for a freelancer to join our team:

Accessibility-Focused WordPress Developer

We’re looking for a WordPress developer who believes websites should work well for everyone.

A. Calvin Design is growing our team, and we’re looking for an experienced WordPress Developer with accessibility expertise and certification to collaborate with us on client projects.

We work with nonprofits, small businesses, museums, and other organizations to create thoughtful, accessible digital experiences. We’re looking for someone who can help us make sure accessibility is built into our websites from the very beginning—not something we try to fix at the end.

This is a project-based opportunity with the potential for ongoing work as new projects come our way. We’re hoping to find someone we can build a long-term working relationship with and bring into projects where their expertise is needed.

What you’ll do:

You’ll work closely with our design and project management team to:

  • Build accessible custom WordPress themes
  • Create accessible custom Gutenberg/WordPress blocks
  • Develop clean, semantic HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP
  • Audit website designs for accessibility before they go into development
  • Conduct accessibility audits of existing client websites
  • Identify and remediate WCAG issues
  • Test websites using both automated tools and manual testing
  • Accessibility check and create ACRs for products and services. Familiar with conducting audits using VPAT format for ACRs.
  • Help our designers make accessibility-conscious decisions during the design process
  • Talk with our team and clients about accessibility in a way that is easy to understand

We’re looking for someone who…

  • Has solid WordPress development experience

  • Knows their way around HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP

  • Experience with BitBucket or similar Git repository.
  • Has experience building custom themes and Gutenberg blocks

  • Has a strong understanding of WCAG 2.1/2.2

  • Holds an accessibility certification such as IAAP CPACC, WAS, or a similar credential

  • Is comfortable conducting accessibility audits and remediating issues

  • Has experience testing with keyboards and screen readers

  • Notices the little things and genuinely cares about creating inclusive experiences

  • Can collaborate comfortably with designers and non-technical teammates

  • Is excited to share their knowledge and help make our work better

A little about us

We’re a small, collaborative creative studio, which means you’ll have a real voice in the work. We care about building good relationships with our teammates and clients, learning and sharing our knowledge, and making an impact with the projects we create.

If you’re the kind of developer who gets excited about building beautiful WordPress sites and making sure everyone can enjoy it, we’d love to meet you.
